Sideropenic anaemia

Description:
Boy, 9 months, low Hgb 66g/L, Hct 0.23 with normal RBC count 4.27x10/12/L, low MCV 54.6 f, low MCH 15.5 pg and MCHC 283.00 g/L, anisocytosis with high RDW 18,9%, low serum iron (FeS) 2.7, serum transferin 3.55, low transferin saturation 0.03, Low serum ferritin is typical for this condition.
Blood smear (peripheral): hypochromia, anisocytosis, microcytosis (based on low MCV).
STfR is increased as a result of insufficient erythropoesis due to limited iron availability.

Description: numerous hypochromic red blood cells, target cell in the middle ( This target cell is also a "planocyte" = plane cell with reduced width). Anisocytosis and several eliptocytes are also seen.
